MP4 is a video container

An MP4 can hold video, audio, captions, and metadata. Weeve only needs the audio track for transcription. It does not inspect frames or generate descriptions of what appears on screen.

Compatibility depends on the audio codec, not only the .mp4 extension. Two MP4 files from different systems can behave differently in the same browser.

Useful MP4 sources

MP4 is common for exported presentations, webinars, screen recordings, camera footage, and meeting recordings. Export the recording from its source system first, then choose the local file in Weeve.

There is no direct Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams connection. Weeve does not join calls or fetch recordings from those services.

When an MP4 will not decode

Try a current Chrome, Edge, or Safari release. If the audio codec remains unsupported, export or convert a copy with a broadly supported AAC audio track, or extract the audio as MP3 or WAV.

Video files can be large even when their audio is short. Reading the entire file uses browser memory, so a smaller export can help on memory-constrained devices.
