Choose the right microphone
A headset or close USB mic usually captures less room echo than the built-in laptop microphone across a desk. Most machines offer more than one input: the built-in mic in the lid or keyboard deck, a headset mic near your mouth, and any USB mic as its own device. Device names appear after permission is granted, and the one the browser picks by default is not always the one you want.
Disconnecting the active input can interrupt capture. Select the intended microphone before a long recording, and if you are about to record something you cannot repeat, take ten seconds first and play it back.
Set a useful level
Speak at the volume and distance you expect to use. Repeated maximum peaks can mean clipping. A barely moving meter can mean the input is too quiet.
Browser noise handling can help, but it cannot repair severe clipping, wind, or a covered microphone.
Keep mobile recording active
Switching apps or locking a phone can suspend the browser and stop recording. Keep this tab open until you finish.
