Why WAV files are large

Many WAV recordings store pulse-code modulation without lossy compression. This keeps audio detail but can make the file several times larger than an MP3 or M4A of the same duration.

The browser reads the file and creates another working audio buffer. Available memory, not only duration, can therefore matter for high sample rates, many channels, or long recordings.

Lossless does not fix the recording

WAV avoids one source of quality loss, but it cannot fix a clipped microphone, distant speech, room echo, or voices talking over one another.

Use the cleanest original track. Converting an already compressed MP3 to WAV makes a larger file without restoring removed detail.

If memory is limited

Close other heavy tabs and applications before retrying. A shorter WAV or a high-quality compressed copy can reduce the memory needed for decoding.

If speaker separation fails because resources are tight, Weeve can still present the word transcript without speaker labels.
