Convert M4A to a transcript

M4A is common for Apple Voice Memos and audio-only exports. Choose the file and Weeve decodes it locally before creating a transcript with punctuation, timestamps, and available speaker labels.

Compatibility at a glance

Weeve accepts .m4a files and common audio/mp4, audio/x-m4a, and audio/m4a MIME types. M4A is a container, and not every AAC or other codec variant is decodable in every browser.

How it works

Four clear steps from local file to reviewed text.

  1. 01

    Export the recording

Save or share the Voice Memo or other M4A to your device.

  2. 02

    Select it in Weeve

The page validates the file and the browser decodes its audio locally.

  3. 03

    Transcribe automatically

The speech model detects a supported language and creates timed words.

  4. 04

    Finish the document

Correct speaker labels if needed and export the transcript.

Product details

Practical details for m4a transcription.

From Voice Memos to text

Apple Voice Memos commonly saves recordings as M4A. Save the memo as a file or share it to your Mac, then select that file in the browser.

Weeve has no connection to iCloud or the Voice Memos library. It can only read the file you deliberately choose.

What is inside an M4A

M4A usually contains AAC or Apple Lossless audio. Browser support varies by operating system, browser, and codec details.

A supported .m4a extension means Weeve will attempt to decode it. It does not mean every unusual AAC profile or protected file will work.

Improve a voice-note transcript

Keep the phone close enough to the speaker and avoid covering its microphones. Distant voices, wind, clipping, and overlapping speech make both transcription and speaker separation harder.

If the original M4A fails, export a new unprotected copy or convert a copy to WAV or MP3. Do not rename only the extension.

Your recording stays here

Recording bytes, decoded audio, transcript text, and speaker names stay on this page. Speech models download from Weeve’s CDN.

A transcript you can review

Timestamps and speaker labels stay editable before export.

Great. I renamed your speaker label, so the exported notes will use your name.
